If the jawbone is soft or thin, you may need bone grafting before or during a dental implant surgery. A bone graft creates a more solid base for the implant, without which the implant could fail from lack of support. For the graft, a piece of bone is taken from another part of the jaw or an allograft in a bottle and transplanted to the jawbone. It will take time for the transplanted bone to grow and be strong enough to sustain the implant. Some cases only require minor bone grafting, which can usually be done in the same appointment as the implant surgery. When needed, bone grafting provides a secure base for your implant, allowing you to rest assured that it will be strong and healthy.
